- I got sober in ClearWater, FLA. It is a beach town on the West Coast of Florida. The sand is beautiful and the water is, too. Just under the tourist-catering hotel and restaurant scene is a whole unfortunate, disenfranchised subculture of people on the skids. I lived in a seedy two bedroom apartment run by a slumlord who was actually an AA'er who convinced himself he was helping people while ignoring the money he was putting in his pocket.
