I'm 50 with 4 kids, a yours mine and ours sort of affair. I'm married for the second (and final) time. I've got a great job which I thankfully didn't screw up by drinking (though it was close a few times). I love being sober and totally want to stay that way. No...... I will stay that way. I'm usually pretty good, but every once in a while.....
Looking for?
Anything I can do to keep the old Lizard Brain from surfacing...
Steve... Wow you hit a lot in one holiday. Takkakaw falls is one of the hidden gems in this area... that switch back access road keeps the tourbus crowd out. It's funny, the last time I hiked up to the tea house at Takkakaw my wife was terrified the whole way because of Grizzly Warning's posted and we eventually did see one... in the parking lot after 12 hours of walking!
Canoo/Brad... I was in your part of the world summer 2005. Finally got the chance to fulfill a long-held dream and go to Banff. Had time for the Emerald Lake and Takkakaw parts of Yoho, and the glacier walk in southern Jasper to boot. I loved it (other than not seeing any grizz on the north side of the border).
I did, in Banff, besides the obvious Lake Louise, Moraine Lake hiking around the lake, way up to Sentinel Col (in August snow to boot!) the teahouse above Moraine, Johnston Canyon/Falls and other areas.
P.S., I didn't mean to ignore your question about the "big bisons", just an oversight. It's a funny story (to me, at least); The explanation begins with that cheek-kissing the French do.In it's written form it is "Gros Bisous" (big kisses).I recently found an old HS friend on Classmates; he's got quite a sense of humor. At the time, in ending a letter to him, I wanted to include him in the tradition, so I wrote gros bisous, and he replied with "Big Bisons" as a translation, and it stuck!
Thank you for the compliment, and yes,I remember you well, Bruce!(makes me think of the musical"GiGi") Weren't we 1 on 1? It's me, DiDi. I originally took the handle"loufoque", which is a favorite word of mine(do you know what it means?) However, since there was already a "lou", and I saw the merit of keeping it short, I changed it to reflect my real name; I also find this easier- it's hard when the viewed handle is different than the name that friends are using , the actual name of the person.
Your "list" is the same as mine, only worded differently. So under my blog it says at the moment, "No Comments, (Add)" Click on add, and share your sobriety gains with us! That IS the list, and I did add one, that I can think better now. My list is much longer than that, of course. I will add another ASAP. I also consider it a valuable tool in my sobriety army ! (P.S., I agree that your pic is a bit obscure...)
Dianne... do you go on the unhooked chat as Di Di ?? I was on last night as Brad (my real name), and talked a couple of times to a very nice lady avec (last night) 25 days sober... strange how things move in circles sometimes!!
I really like your idea which seems to be on the main page... to see in print all the things we have gained from being clean/sober...
One of my favorite lists I add to regularily..... is a list of things that I would NOT have done had I been drinking... sometimes these are very simple like going for a bike ride in the morning... and occasionally deeper and more complicated... What I do know is.... seeing, adding to and thinking about a list like you suggest has helped me tremendously...
Did you start that list yet? Where can we go to add to it?
Thanks....
Chrissy... I definitely know the Crowsnest Pass area... I would have driven right past your house last September on my way back to Calgary from Cranbrook, where some of my outlaws live. I discovered lifering (unhooked.com) a little over a year ago and have relied on it HUGELY ever since, especially the email lists like Tom Shelley's. The picture is at my brother's cottage near Winnipeg... believe it or not but that was actually my first time on one ski...( I'd been up lots on two... and done lots of snow skiing ever since I was little)
I think once I get a bit more comfy here I'll be brave enough to post more of a close-up type pic...
Thanks for the welcome(s) !!!
I hope this site really takes off... I've never been on this sort of a 'bloggish communityish' site before and I feel a bit lost, but I'm hoping we can all help each other out a bit...
