I think that there is a common assumption by some Ex-AA members that because their experiences did not include the abuses that I and other so-called AA bashers have experienced, our opinions are to be regarded as excessive or angry. How does one ...

Donald, I invite you to show me precisely where I accused you of selfish motives. The comment I made was made in general, and to someone other than you. Not to put too fine a point upon it, but I believe you may wish to wait until you are actually...

I didnt accuse you of hating anyone. I was referring to newcomers and whether fostering an adversarial attitude in them or around them on a regular basis would help them get on with recovery or stay wired with anger. But theres a niche for every...

Bob, Why would you assume that it's a moral issue? Is everything so black and white to you AA folks?

Rick, Accusing me of having selfish motives will not keep you sober. How long have you been sober? I've been sober for over three years using methods other than AA. 18 years of groveling on my knees before an aimless AA God who required that I thi...

Brain chemicals? You're kidding right? Your position would assume that the only thing I did to recover from alcoholism is to hate AA. Wrong. I don't hate anyone. AA practices mind control in order to recruit new members. AA's one size fits all a...

I'm in Canada While I agree with some of what you say. I attended 30 or 40 meetings, 2 treatments. I was pissed right off for a long time. read Trimpey and Ragge etc This is pure speculation but on the cautious side: I think some ex aa'rs may e...

Hi Patrick-James in Ireland here. I totally agree with your view point. It is ok to say that LifeRing is different to AA. That statement is just a fact and is not being judgemental. Just as i am differant to you Patrick or differant to Donald. I s...

Hi Todd - You've started a lively discussion here and, having now read through the posts to Oct 24, I appreciate the perspectives shared by all. I am often asked by people unfamiliar with our approach to describe in simple terms the differences b...

About Me:
It was alot of trial and error before I was finally able to sober up and stay that way. Learning as much as I could about different recovery methods helped me to develop a Personal Recovery Plan that is designed to suit my own specific needs. I took a little piece of this and a little bit of that and put it all together and I'm still here to tell you about it. I actually wound up having alot of fun doing it.
Looking for?
A community of people like myself that I can relate to.

Songs That Move Me

Somewhere over the rainbow- way up high
in the land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby

Somewhere over the rainbow- skies are blue
and the dreams that you dare to dream
really do come true

Someday I'll wish upon a star
and wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
away above the chimney tops
that's where you'll find me

Someday I'll wish upon a star
and wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
away above the chimney tops
that's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue
and the dreams...that you dare to dream
really do come true

If happy little bluebirds fly
above the rainbow, why
Oh, why can't I?

Why veil the sun?
Why darken the water?
“Thy will be done”
if you think you ought to.

No-one can see you when you’re on your own.
No-one can be you.
Take your time don't hurry;
It's alright don't worry!

You've just begun for to awaken.
Do walk, don't run!
You’re not forsaken.

No-one can free you from your own prison.
No-one can see you…
Take your time, don't hurry!
It's alright, don't worry!
It's alright, don't worry!

Secularity Slip

It seem that I may have crossed a boundary without realizing it.

I went back and read a reply that I had posted in my recent blog post entitled, "How Complicated is Your Addiction."
In responding to statements concerning the meaning (or lack of meaning) of life, I went ahead and got a bit warm and fuzzy about some philosophical views that I hold, and reading them over, it almost looks like I'm writing about a religious experience. I should have noticed this at the time, and I'd just like to apo… Continue

VAA

Okay, here is my situation...

I've been sober for almost three years.
Before I was able to finally get sober and stay that way, I tried the twelve step stuff for on and off for about eighteen years... It never worked... I decided that it was bullshit and moved on... I worked hard to deprogram from all of the self-defeatism and religious psychobabble that I was taught to believe when I was a member of AA. I wasted years of my life trying something that just does not work for me, because I was le… Continue

My Commitment to Recovery

I hope I'm not being to intrusive when I suggest that you are going to have to quit drinking... or using drugs... or sniffing glue... or whatever addiction you have that is tearing you apart. We can sit around and talk about warm fuzzy feelings or how powerless you feel... believe me, I've felt that way before. We can try to solve the endless dispute over whether addiction is a disease or not. It doesn't really matter. It's a pretty fair bet that if you are still reading this, you are probably l… Continue

No More Mr. Nice Guy!

I've decided that it is just unhealthy for me to continue any interaction with AA members. I understand that some people can continue relationships with people from that program without any negative impact on their perceptions about their sobriety methods or even their self worth. I cannot do this right now. I've come to understand that for most AA folks, there seems to be an unquenchable desire to convert others to their beliefs. Whenever I get involved it just becomes an endless challenge. The… Continue

The Great Debate

I've been spending way too much time online debating and trying to justify my sobriety to people who are never going to accept me for who I am. There are so many stubborn people out there who believe that there is only one way to get sober and stay that way. Sometimes I just get so frustrated that I begin to bash their program and then the whole thing just winds up in an ugly mess. I get really offended when people suggest that any way besides their way is an expression of egocentricity. I guess… Continue

Hey Todd - how's it going? We had some nice weather for a change after the fall rains in Victoria. People here say winter's here when the rain starts. I come from the prairies and if its raining then it sure ain't winter.

Todd...It's just a 'Deputy Admin' spot on the Ning site...you don't have to quit...don't sweat it, bud. I had to make sure my point was made properly so I was firm...not pussyfooting around the issue. This kind of stuff happens all around the internet and I had to make sure to give you solutions that I've seen work well on other websites.

...warnings, copy/pastes etc.

This could be a great thing for you to do...unless you actually resign for keeps.
